The tourism is the principal activity of the island, favored by dry weather and pleasant almost all the year and the presence of numerous beautiful beaches, in some of them you can practice windsurfing, skysurfing and snorkeling. On the beaches is possible taste all kinds of fish or meat. Either you can drink a fresh coconut prepared in front of your eyes.
On the island there are several old Spanish fortifications, considered a national heritage.
Pampatar
The second biggest city of Margarita. There live almost 50.000 people. the biggest shopping centers are in the venue: Sambil Center Margarita, Rattan Depot Center, AB (Avenida Bolivar) Center , and La Redoma Center. Pampatar has a long and beautiful city beach with many restaurants. It's the seat of the San carlos Borromeo's Castle approximately built between 1664 and 1684. Until many years ago, Pampatar was a fisher's town but, thank to the tourism, in recent times has become one of the principal night centers of the island.
